Bird's nest in drivewayIt was a cool and rainy day—not so unusual for Syracuse. I had been back at the house for about 30 minutes. I'm not sure what made me look out of my front window but when I did, I saw an object in the middle of my driveway. I wasn't sure what it was, but decided to go out to see. When I got up close to it, it was clear that it was a bird's nest, perfectly made and intact. I hadn't even noticed there being any bird's nests in the stately pines that line my driveway. Because of the rain, the nest was heavy and from the fall, a few twigs had been misplaced—nothing a good hair (nest) brushing wouldn't fix.

I didn't think it could have been carried far, but I wondered who had made such a perfect nest and where were they staying, now that their home was on the ground, and how they could get by without somewhere to spend the night. I wondered what kind of bird the nest belonged to—I am a bird lover and feeder of birds and welcome many different kinds of birds to my back yard. I wondered if one of "my" birds was the owner of this nest… Guess I'll never know the answer.
